Nessebar and Sozopol Signed a One-Year Peace Treaty Messambria Wished Apollonia to Become a Part of UNESCO Messeambria, present day Nessebar, and Apollonia, present day Sozopol, signed a peace treaty ending the war which started twenty-two centuries ago. The contract was concluded in the presence of Poseidon, the god of sea, who came by sea together with Mr. Nikolai Dimitrov, mayor of Nessebar, and Dionysius, the god of wine. In the 2nd century BC Messambria attacked Apollonia without declaring a war and conquered Anhialo, Pomorie at present. Anhialo was founded by Apollonia and its salt pans were the main reason for the war.
Nessebar municipality was awarded two prizes at the “Cultural Tourism” exhibition in Veliko Turnovo Nessebar municipality won two prizes at the prestige exhibition “Cultural Tourism” in Veliko Turnovo. About sixty municipalities participated in it. One of the awards is for the initiative “Celebrate with Us” which converts town holidays into a product of cultural tourism. The distinction was given to Mr. Nikolai Dimitrov, mayor of Nessebar by the mayor of the ancient town of Veliko Turnovo. “This prize is the second good news for our town because today the first cruise ship moored in the port of Nessebar and marked the beginning of the tourist season. All the passengers are after cultural tourism. It comes to mind that with the development of that kind of tourism we are on the right way to make our town more prosperous”, said the mayor in his speech.
