NESSEBAR MUNICIPALITY RELIES ON CULTURE TOURISM TO OVERCOME THE ECONOMIC CRISIS Thousands of invaluable and unique artifacts lie in the ground where Nessebar stands today. This is the conclusion of the archaeologists working “on site” in the ancient Messambria. In the last archaeological summer six hundred and fifty finds were excavated in the necropolis. The historical and archaeological value of just two of them pays for all the investments made by the municipality in the excavations. One of them is a red vase for serving wine dating to the beginning of the 4th c BC, the other one is a “protome”, ceramic bust of a female deity, from the same period. The vase bears a precise drawing of a griffin with a maenad on its back standing opposite a satyr.
